Celebrity Autographs And Celebrity Addresses

Catherine Zeta Jones and husband Michael Douglas are among a host of celebrities playing in a charity golf tournament in south Wales this weekend.

The tournament starts on Sunday at the Celtic Manor Resort, Newport, but the stars spent Saturday practising.

Jones is on the European team captained by Colin Montgomery, while Douglas plays for the US team led by former Masters champion Mark O'Meara.

Rugby star Gavin Henson DJ Chris Evans and singer Ronan Keating also play.

The tournament was the idea of TV presenters Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly.

Swansea-born Jones began practising around 0900 BST on Saturday, in a closest-to-the-flag competition. She did better than her husband, but the contest was won by Ronan Keating.

Jones and Douglas revealed they had been preparing for the event in Swansea. The 60-year-old actor revealed he had played a few rounds in the Swansea area and had been taking lessons.

His wife, wearing the team Europe kit of green tank top and white trousers, revealed she had a handicap of 24 and said her favourite course was Langland on Gower.

Earlier she had admitted to some pre-tournament nerves: "It's such an unpredictable game," she said.

"I'm just praying to the golf gods."

In the afternoon practice round, Jones played with Jodie Kidd, footballer Ian Wright and Olympic rower Sir Steve Redgrave.

The atmosphere was light-hearted with the Hollywood actress playing up to the crowd and signing autographs for spectators.

Radio Two presenter Chris Evans revealed that the European and US teams had very different approaches to the tournament.

All the American players, he claimed, were "tucked up in bed" early on Friday night.

"At 1.15am, the European team members were still in the bar," he said.

"With the greatest respect to our American friends, there were none of them in the entertainment facilities of the hotel after 10pm."

Captain Montgomery said that his team would be taking their playing seriously once the competition started for real on Sunday.

"We are all up for it," he said.

US captain O'Meara said the rivalry between husband and wife Jones and Douglas should prove interesting.

Hospital appeal

He said that he had watched the couple playing in the practice rounds: "Michael hit a nice shot," he said.

"Not as good as his wife - which was probably a pretty good move."

As part of the tournament, each competitor nominates a charity to benefit from their efforts.

Jones and Douglas, who have spent part of their summer in Swansea, will be raising money for the Noah's Ark Appeal.

The charity will use the donation to make inroads into the £300,000 needed to complete the Teenage Cancer Trust Unit at its new hospital in Cardiff, which opened to its first patients in February.

Wales and British Lions rugby star Gavin Henson, meanwhile, has nominated WWF Cymru as his charity.

Those taking part are set to enjoy a gala evening at Celtic Manor on Saturday. The venue will host the 2010 Ryder Cup.

The players will go out in pairs on Sunday and Monday when the competition starts for real.

special Mariachi performance will celebrate the organization's

Max" Host PATRICIA LOPEZ will emcee. Performers include: Urban
Regional Rappers FLAKKIS and JAE-P, Hip Hop Artists MEXICLAN,

MAR WITH LA TRIGUENITA. Visiting dignitaries include SENATOR
